== The Position == You will be working in a collegiate team of 13 specialists including the Clinical Director and VMOs, 14 Registrars and Principal House Officers, 6 Senior House Officers/Junior Medical Officers and 9 Interns.  Your responsibilities will include the provision of inpatient and outpatient specialist Palliative Care services to the region, professional leadership to medical staff within the department and to be an active contributor to the multidisciplinary team. This position would suit someone with a high level of clinical knowledge, proficiency, and skills in Palliative Medicine including recent hospital experience. Furthermore, you will have the ability to promote commitment to principles of high quality healthcare along with participation in improvement programs relevant to patient centred palliative care services. The Hospital The hospital has 230 beds and services an immediate and surrounding area population of roughly 250,000 people. As the regional referral centre for emergency services, the facility sees an approximate 45,000 ED presentations per year and a total of 22,000 admissions. There is a great variety of clinical presentations. Construction of a $155 million seven storey ward block was completed in May 2015; three of the stories house cancer care services. A new helipad built on top of the seven storey ward block will enable better transport of trauma patients. Works are also underway on the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit that will be housed within the new seven storey ward block. The Department of Medicine comprises 32 medical beds, 5 coronary beds, 12 medical oncology and haematology shared beds, 9 palliative care beds and provides specialist outpatient clinics each week.   == The Location == Halfway between Brisbane and Townsville this town is only a short drive to the pristine beaches and national parklands of Queensland. The town has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and offers plenty of activities close by to keep you and your family entertained; including museums, botanical gardens, a crocodile farm and a local zoo. The beach is perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving and boating.  The city hosts various arts, music and dance festivals throughout the year and has a thriving nightlife with many restaurants, bars, hotels and clubs to choose from. Locally there are four shopping centres. The region is well served by both private and public schools, including several for boarders. The architecture is a mix of colonial through to modern. Homes in the suburbs south of the river are predominantly older Queensland architectural styles; the northern suburbs contain most of the modern homes.
