== The Position == As an Emergency Medicine PHO you will work alongside the Director, Staff Specialists and Senior Medical Officers to help ensure the Emergency Department runs to the highest of standards. You will liaise with and maintain good communications with all areas and disciplines within the health service, along with assisting with the supervision of day to day tasks undertaken by junior doctors. Via planning, supervising and arranging appropriate clinical investigations, you will support the clinical care of patients attending the Emergency Department.     The Hospital The hospital has 230 beds and services an immediate and surrounding area population of roughly 250,000 people. As the regional referral centre for emergency services, the facility sees an approximate 45,000 ED presentations per year and sees a total of 22,000 admissions with a great variety of clinical presentations. Construction of a $155 million seven storey ward block was completed in May 2015 and a new helipad built on top will enable better transport of trauma patients. Works are also underway on the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit that will be housed within the new seven storey ward block. == The Location == Halfway between Brisbane and Townsville this town is only a short drive to the pristine beaches and national parklands of Queensland. The town has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and offers plenty of activities close by to keep you and your family entertained; including museums, botanical gardens, a crocodile farm and a local zoo. The beach is perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving and boating.  The city hosts various arts, music and dance festivals throughout the year and has a thriving nightlife with many restaurants, bars, hotels and clubs to choose from. Locally there are four shopping centres. The region is well served by both private and public schools, including several for boarders. The architecture is a mix of colonial through to modern and homes in the suburbs south of the river are predominantly older Queensland architectural styles whilst the northern suburbs contain most of the modern homes. == Essential Criteria == To be eligible you must have general registration with AHPRA or be eligible for registration having had 12 months recent Emergency Medicine experience in a country with comparable healthcare to Australia. You will have at least four years of postgraduate experience and a keen interest in developing your knowledge and exposure.
