== The Position == As a Consultant Haematologist you will be working in a service that encompasses the management of the full spectrum of haematological malignancies including auto and allogeneic stem cell transplantation enabling you to experience a wide and comprehensive caseload. This DHB currently has 2 roles available, one is a permanent, fulltime role, the other is as a fulltime fixed-term contract for up to 12 months. Your primary responsibility will be to provide high quality care to patients. Other duties include actively contributing to the haematology education and training of both community and hospital staff as well as participating in the service?s quality improvement activities. Along with delivering specialised services there is also the opportunity to engage in clinical research. The Service The Haematology service is part of a wider blood and cancer centre which incorporates Haematology, Medical Oncology, Palliative Care and Radiation Oncology services. You will be working in state of the art facilities that provide services to a catchment of 500,000 people. The principal focus of the service is high-quality patient care with particular emphasis on multidisciplinary patient management. In addition to this, the service has a strong commitment to staff education/development, enabling you to hone your craft.  The Blood & Cancer Centre provides services at one of the major tertiary hospitals in New Zealand as well as providing clinics in the surrounding regions. The outpatient department includes a day treatment area and outpatient clinics, the radiation therapy department and a clinical research unit. == The Location == Nestled at the bottom of New Zealand?s South Island, this harbour side city is known for its lively nightlife, world-class culinary scene and its national museums, galleries, and theatres. Overseas applicants must be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Although experience in Clinical Haematology and Pathology will be an advantage, applications from recently qualified graduates will be considered.
