At RAAF Base Tindal, you’ll be part of a close-knit team, delivering comprehensive healthcare services to a dedicated population of Defence members. The health centre supports approximately 550 personnel, with increased demands during Air Force exercises including visiting forces from the USA each year. You'll have the chance to work in a state-of-the-art facility offering general medical, aviation medical, nursing, and mental health services, as well as a 10-bed inpatient low dependency day ward. Typical working hours are 0730-1600 Monday to Thursday, with shorter hours on Fridays.

The Role

- Delivering high quality medical care involving all aspects of General Practice including focus areas such as Men’s & Women’s Health, Mental & Sexual Health, Occupational Medicine and Rehabilitation

- Conducting aviation medical checks, assessing fitness to fly, and ongoing health management of air crew (Aviation Medicine training provided)

- Responding to medical emergencies and referring patients on to other onsite services or externally for Specialist, Optical, Diagnostic Imaging, Pathology and/or Occupational Rehab care services as required

- Advicing Unit Commanders and Health Centre Managers on patient conditions, and keeping accurate patient records on the online health platform

Competitive salaries depedent on previous AVMO qualifications: - up to $413,000 per year as a Medical Officer. Aviation Medical shifts include a $25ph increment (up to $460,000 per year)

- Flexible permanent contracts, either reside on base full-time or part-time, or provide services via FIFO from anywhere in Australia (minimum commitment of 0.25FTE).

- Doctors may negotiate additional allowance to travel to Darwin over weekends.

- Excellent sign on and retention incentives totalling $75,000 over the first 12-months

- $5000 relocation assistance for doctors willing to move to the region

- 20 days annual leave, 10 days sick pay and 2 paid CPD days per year

- Medical offciers interested in obtaining AVMO qualifications will be provided with 6-weeks paid training and eligible for the higher hourly rate for Aviation Medicine shifts

RAAF Tindal is an Air Force base located 15 km (15 mins drive) outside of Katherine, NT with a dependency of approximately 550-580 ADF personnel, surging regularly throughout the year for major Air Force exercises. The Tindal Health Centre standard operating hours are 0730-1545, Monday-Friday and provides GP, Dental, Mental Health, Nursing, Occupational Rehabilitation, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy services and operates a 10-bed inpatient day ward.

Requirements

Essential:

- FRACGP/FACRRM or Vocational Registration + full AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner

- Evidence of recent participation in CPD and a current CPR Certificate

- Australian Citizenship

Desirable:

- Previous AVMO qualification or commercial aviation healthcare experience

- 2 years post-qualification experience as a GP in a private practice/outpatient setting

- Equivilent General Practice experience of 2 years full time in the last 5 years (3900 hours)

- Self-starter who is collaborative, with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

GP Registrars who are close to obtaining their Fellowship will also be considered, previous ADF employees or ADF reservists encouraged to apply

The successful candidate MUST have Australian Citizenship, and will be required to obtain AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
