At Kapooka Health Centre, located within Blamey Barracks, you’ll be part of the vital team supporting Army recruits through their basic training. With a 50-bed low dependency ward operating 24/7, this facility is integral to the health and wellbeing of new recruits. Your role will focus on primary healthcare, working alongside a multidisciplinary team offering medical, nursing, dental, and mental health services. Working hours are generally 0700-1600 Monday to Friday, with potential weekend and on-call shifts (GP presentations over the phone only) depending on the needs of the military.

The Role

- Delivering high quality outpatient and inpatient medical care, with a strong focus on Men’s & Women’s Health including Sexual Health, Mental Health, Rehabilitation and performing minor surgical procedures

- Conducting pre and post deployment health check-ups and/or fitness assessments, supporting patients and promoting wellness and healthy living

- Providing medical advice to relevant Unit Commanders and Health Centre Managers, and updating/maintaining accurate patient records on the online health platform

- Responding to medical emergencies and referring patients on to other Medical Specialists and Allied Health services as required

Set within the Kapooka Military Area (10 kms South-East of Wagga Wagga), Kapooka Health Centre provides care to more than 5,000 new Army Recruits per year.

Requirements

Essential:

- FRACGP/FACRRM or Vocational Registration + full AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner

- Evidence of recent participation in CPD and a current CPR Certificate

- Australian Citizenship

Desirable:

- 2 years post-qualification experience as a GP in a private practice/outpatient setting

- Equivilent General Practice experience of 2 years full time in the last 5 years (3900 hours)

- Self-starter who is collaborative, with the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

GP Registrars who are close to obtaining their Fellowship will also be considered, previous ADF employees or ADF reservists encouraged to apply

The successful candidate MUST have Australian Citizenship, and will be required to obtain AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
