The Bench GP role offers the stability of full-time employment while allowing flexibility in work location. As part of the ADF’s permanent staff, you’ll be available to fill vacancies caused by sick leave, planned leave, or other short-term gaps across various bases. Whether you're needed for a week or just a day, you'll always be on standby to support the ADF’s medical operations.

You’ll be paid as a full-time employee, even if your weekly shift quota isn’t fully used, making this role ideal for those who value flexibility combined with job security.

The Role

- Delivering high quality outpatient and inpatient medical care, with a strong focus on Men’s & Women’s Health including Sexual Health, Mental Health, Rehabilitation and performing minor surgical procedures

- Conducting pre and post deployment health check-ups and/or fitness assessments, supporting patients and promoting wellness and healthy living

- Providing medical advice to relevant Unit Commanders and Health Centre Managers, and updating/maintaining accurate patient records on the online health platform

- Responding to medical emergencies and referring patients on to other Medical Specialists and Allied Health services as required

This position has no home location, you may be based anywhere in Australia as long as you can commit to providing immediate assistance for unexpected leave in your home state, with occasional FIFO travel to cover week or longer blocks interstate (notice provided)

Requirements

Essential:

- FRACGP/FACRRM or Vocational Registration + full AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner

- Evidence of recent participation in CPD and a current CPR Certificate

- Australian Citizenship

- Flexibility is essential for this role as you may be deployed to cover unexpected leave with little notice

Desirable:

- 2 years post-qualification experience as a GP in a private practice/outpatient setting

- Equivilent General Practice experience of 2 years full time in the last 5 years (3900 hours)

GP Registrars who are close to obtaining their Fellowship will also be considered, previous ADF employees or ADF reservists encouraged to apply

The successful candidate MUST have Australian Citizenship, and will be required to obtain AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
