We’ve all been there. An invite to stay with a distant aunt and uncle that you only see once every five years, with a bunch of cousins and their families lumped in together sharing a house made for two. It’s great for the kids, but for us adults, as much as we love our families, after a busy year at work it’s a bit of peace and quiet that we really crave.

Untitled 600 600pxThis summer, why not swap the family noise and chaos for a working summer holiday, somewhere tropical, near the wineries, or in the outback? And, as a cherry on top, you’ll not only get paid an enviable rate but will learn new skills and enjoy new experiences as well.

Here at Wavelength, we’re currently wading through piles of opportunities for summer locum work as our overstretched hospitals and clinics look for staff to fill gaps and meet an ever-growing demand. In fact, demand has been so high recently, that some locums are receiving 50% more in pay than they would have 12 months ago [1]. Plus, with the added incentive of accommodation and travel provided for some locum roles, you could have a summer working holiday and come home with cash in the bank too.

Be a bit of a daredevil (but without the danger part)

Some like to spend their summer holidays jumping out of planes or running rapids, but we’re suggesting pushing you out of your comfort zone without the adrenaline-inducing fear that comes with daredevil sports.

Untitled 600 600px 2Some of our locum positions will really test you – perhaps you’ll be thrown in at the deep end and be asked to take the lead in a small clinic, or you might be asked to pick up new tasks that are unfamiliar to you. Or, it could be that your locum position is somewhere really remote and far from your usual haunts. In our opinion, that’s all part of the experience of being a locum, which is why we look for people who are flexible, willing to adapt, and up for a bit of an adventure.

It’s not all scary stuff though. Some locum assignments could see you having time for a morning surf at the beach, or an evening stroll through the streets of a small country town.

But it’s summer! I want to go to the beach and laze around!

We get it. It’s a bit counter-intuitive to suggest to you that you spend your summer holidays working. But let’s face it, many of us get to the beach, spend a few hours there and then we’re ready to do something a bit more interesting.

Untitled 600 600px 1With summer locum work, you can get the best of both worlds with plenty of downtimes, in a great location, mixed in with some interesting and stimulating work. You tell us what you’re looking for in terms of destination, hours and type of work and we’ll get to work matching your needs with one of our great locum positions. After all, a change is as good as a holiday!

How do I know if there is a role for me?

That’s what we’re here for. At Wavelength, in the past 12 months, we’ve made almost 3,000 locum placements all across Australia. That equates to over 37,000 days of care, all carefully put together by our 26 specialist locum recruiters and their teams.

GP, Dr Sejal Mishra is one of the locums we’ve been working with. He says of Wavelength, “They always successfully manage to find excellent locums at great locations at a time that is convenient for me. They look after all the paperwork and negotiations and follow up with me consistently to ensure I was satisfied. I would recommend Wavelength to any GP choosing to locum around Australia.”

Our team will work to find the perfect role for you, just as we did for Dr Mishra and 800 doctors in the last 12 months, across 261 different hospitals, clinics, practices and health services. We’ll take care of all the paperwork while you get busy packing your sense of adventure.

Now is the time to start planning your summer working holiday adventure. Start the ball rolling by speaking to a Wavelength locum recruiter by clicking here.
