The Position
Are you a passionate medical professional looking to grow your career in paediatrics while enjoying a fulfilling lifestyle? We're seeking a dedicated Registrar or Principal House Officer to join our dynamic, multidisciplinary paediatric team. In this role, you will provide compassionate, high-quality care to paediatric patients across a variety of settings including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, emergency care, and regional outreach. Working closely with experienced consultants, you will be involved in all aspects of clinical management — from planning and treatment to discharge and follow-up.
You’ll play an important leadership role by supervising and mentoring junior medical staff and students, while also contributing to clinical teaching and ongoing education initiatives. Your responsibilities will also include accurate and timely clinical documentation, participation in a fair and balanced after-hours and weekend roster, and collaboration in multidisciplinary team discussions and case reviews. A key part of your role will be contributing to continuous improvement activities, including clinical audits and morbidity and mortality meetings, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
The Hospital
You will be joining a well-established and expanding regional health service at a 300+ bed hospital — the primary referral centre for Central Queensland. The Paediatrics Department offers a broad and rewarding clinical experience across general paediatrics, neonatology with ventilation support in a growing Special Care Nursery, community and Aboriginal health services, child protection, and regional outreach clinics. You’ll benefit from a highly supportive consultant team, strong focus on education, and opportunities to contribute to service development and innovation. This is an ideal environment for clinicians who are eager to build their skills, grow professionally, and make a difference in regional child health.
The Location
Located in a beautiful coastal city in Central Queensland, this role offers not just professional growth, but also an enviable lifestyle. With stunning beaches, national parks, islands, and a warm climate year-round, the area is perfect for anyone seeking a relaxed, outdoor lifestyle. The city boasts a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere with excellent local amenities, quality schools, and convenient transport links. Housing is affordable, the cost of living is lower than metropolitan centres, and the sense of balance between work and life is genuinely achievable. Whether you're enjoying a beach walk after your shift or exploring the nearby natural wonders on the weekend, you’ll have the freedom to enjoy life outside of work.
Essential Criteria
To be considered, candidates must meet the following:
- MBBS or equivalent, with eligibility for AHPRA registration under Level 3 Supervision
- For international applicants: AMC Part 1 (MCQ) passed, plus valid IELTS or OET (completed within the last 12 months)
- Current Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS) certification
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation (Neoresus) certification
