| Conditions: | Babinda is a small town located 75 km south of Cairns with a catchment population of 4500. It is a lush tropical and farming region with high rainfall as it’s located between Queensland’s two highest mountains. Babinda Multi-Purpose Health Service consists of an ED, inpatient ward, GP clinic and residential aged care. It has onsite PT and OT allied health and other allied health services through a referral system. It is staffed with 3.7FTE of Rural Generalist Senior Medical Officers, 1 rural generalist registrar and 1 intern. Shift times are 0800-1630 in the hospital or the clinic with the rostered oncall SMO covering the ED and ward between 1630-0800 the next day. Oncall is shared between the SMOs. There is no evening junior medical officer due to low presentation numbers. Locums are employed as rural generalists and rostered to cover clinical need required between the General Practice and the ED/inpatient ward. They are expected to provide medical officer review as requested and deemed appropriate for the aged care residents. | |||
