The Position

An exceptional opportunity exists for an experienced Maxillofacial Surgeon to join a high-performing Maxillofacial Surgery Department within a major tertiary referral centre in Northern Queensland. In this senior full-time role, you will deliver comprehensive surgical services across the full scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, including trauma, orthognathic, craniofacial, dentoalveolar, pathology, reconstruction and complex multidisciplinary cases. You will contribute to the strategic development of the service, champion patient safety and clinical governance, and support effective workforce management within the department. This role carries significant clinical leadership responsibilities - fostering a positive, communicative and collegiate team culture while working closely with Plastics and ENT to deliver coordinated, high-quality care. Education, training and research are central to the position. You will supervise junior doctors and trainees, lead departmental teaching activities, support research initiatives in collaboration with academic partners and drive continuous quality improvement across the service.

The Hospital

This major tertiary referral hospital, with more than 700 beds, provides statewide and regional specialist services across North and Far North Queensland. Serving a population dispersed over a large geographic region, it offers advanced surgical, medical, trauma and critical care services, supported by state-of-the-art facilities and a strong academic partnership with a leading university. The Maxillofacial Surgery Department works closely with Plastics and ENT, delivering comprehensive inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. The broader health service encompasses 21 facilities and over 6,600 staff, and is recognised for excellence in multidisciplinary care, education, training and research. The organisation actively supports professional development, digital health innovation, structured career pathways and opportunities for leadership progression.
