The Position

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Consultant/Consultant in General Medicine to join a progressive and supportive Department of Medicine within a major health service in Central Queensland. In this senior position, you will work closely with the Director of Medicine to lead the organisation, management and delivery of specialist general medicine services. You will provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient care, contribute to clinical governance and service planning, and offer professional leadership to medical staff within the department. The role also includes supervision of junior clinicians, involvement in teaching and research and participation in the continued expansion of outreach and telehealth services across the region. As part of a multi-site health service, you may also provide clinical support to other facilities within the network, aligned with their clinical capability frameworks.

The Hospital

This major regional hospital is a 305-bed facility and the principal referral centre for Central Queensland. It delivers a wide range of specialist medical services, including Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care, and Anaesthesia. A newly established Cancer Care Unit offers state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive oncology services, significantly improving access to specialist care within the region. As a teaching and training hub with strong university affiliations, the hospital fosters a collaborative, team-focused environment where innovation, education and patient-centred care are central.

Essential criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent and eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in General Medicine.
  • Consideration may be given to overseas-trained specialists supported by the College for Area of Need registration.
