The Position
An outstanding opportunity exists for an experienced and visionary medical leader to deliver services across Central Queensland Health as the Clinical Director of Medicine. In this senior leadership role, you will oversee and drive the strategic direction, governance and delivery of high-quality clinical services across the Department of Medicine. You will lead a team of dedicated professionals to deliver safe, efficient and patient-centered care, while ensuring the integration of education, research and continuous improvement in clinical outcomes. Working closely with the Executive Director of Medical Services and other senior leaders, you will foster excellence in clinical governance, professional development, and operational performance across multiple sites within CQ Health. The role includes responsibility for mentoring medical staff, supporting training programs for junior doctors and students, and contributing to innovation in models of care, telehealth and regional service delivery.

As the principal referral centre for Central Queensland, this leading hospital is a 305-bed facility providing an extensive range of specialist medical services. These include Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, Renal Medicine, Palliative Care, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatric Medicine, Paediatrics, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive Care, and Anaesthesia. The hospital’s modern Cancer Care Unit is equipped with advanced technology and delivers comprehensive oncology services, greatly enhancing access to specialist treatment across the region. Essential criteria
- Mandatory qualifications: Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent, eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist Physician with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). This will require Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP).
- Candidates with an additional sub-specialty qualification or interest are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Enrolment in and maintenance of ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs with appropriate professional bodies.
