    • Deliver diverse Gastroenterology and interventional endoscopy care in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
    • Live in a tropical region, the primary gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, with stunning beaches and easy access to outdoor recreation.

The Position

An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join a collegial team within a large tertiary health service. The role offers comprehensive Gastroenterology and Hepatology practice across a diverse region, with a subspecialty focus in interventional endoscopy, including ERCP and EUS, alongside general clinics. You will provide high-quality inpatient, outpatient, and procedural care, supervise and mentor junior staff, teach students and trainees and participate in on-call and evening endoscopy duties. Clinical governance, quality improvement and service planning are integral to the role.

The Hospital

This large public health service is the primary provider of healthcare to a population of over 250,000 people across regional, rural and remote communities in Far North Queensland. It delivers services through more than 30 facilities across a geographically vast area and is largely self-sufficient, with only a small number of highly specialised services referred interstate. The service strongly values community engagement, multidisciplinary collaboration, research and education, and provides modern facilities supported by ongoing investment in clinical services and digital health initiatives.

The Location

Enjoy a vibrant tropical lifestyle with easy access to the Great Barrier Reef, World Heritage–listed rainforests and endless outdoor adventure. The region offers a relaxed coastal way of life with year-round warm weather, excellent public and private schooling options, and a welcoming, multicultural community. Residents enjoy a modern waterfront precinct, convenient air connections, a growing food, café and arts scene, and minimal commuting times. With more affordable housing compared to major capital cities, this location provides the opportunity to balance a rewarding specialist career with an exceptional quality of life.

Essential criteria

  • Registration (or eligibility) with AHPRA as a Medical Practitioner.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Gastroenterology (or equivalent).
  • Conjoint Committee recognition in Upper GI Endoscopy, Colonoscopy and ERCP (EUS desirable).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high-quality Gastroenterology services at consultant level.
  • Specialist registrants are preferred; however, non-specialists or overseas-trained specialists may be considered where significant progress toward fellowship can be demonstrated. Applicants who have completed specialist qualifications but are awaiting specialist registration are encouraged to apply.
