The Position

This senior leadership role provides strategic and operational clinical oversight for a regional mental health service, offered as a fixed-term appointment of five years with the possibility of extension. The position is preferably full-time, with flexibility to consider part-time or sessional arrangements.

Reporting to the regional manager and as a member of the Mental Health Executive Advisory Group, you will lead clinical governance, service quality, workforce leadership and strategic planning. The role oversees a medical workforce of approximately 4.5 FTE, including Consultants, Registrars and locum staff, ensuring safe, high-quality care.

Key priorities include developing the Alcohol and Other Drug Consultation Liaison Service and leading workforce growth through the Rural Psychiatry Training Program, offering a unique opportunity to shape services and deliver meaningful outcomes for regional communities.

Essential criteria

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent.
  • Unconditional General and Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • Extensive clinical leadership experience with demonstrated expertise in clinical governance systems.
  • Current or recent specialist psychiatric experience in Australia.
