The Position

An exciting opportunity is available for a Deputy Director of Intensive Care to support the leadership and operation of a busy regional ICU within a major hospital and health service. Working closely with the Director, you will deliver high-quality specialist ICU care while contributing to service management, workforce leadership, clinical governance, research, and service development. The role includes leadership of junior medical staff, participation in on-call rosters, acting in the Director role when required, and a strong focus on education and multidisciplinary teamwork.

The Hospital

The hospital is a major regional referral centre delivering specialist services across a wide range of medical and surgical disciplines, including Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Intensive Care.

The Intensive Care Unit is a modern, state-of-the-art service currently operating 10 beds with capacity to expand to 14. It provides care to adult and paediatric patients from across a large regional catchment, managing a broad case mix including trauma, complex medical and surgical cases, oncology, and paediatrics. The unit supports approximately 450–650 admissions per year and is staffed by a strong multidisciplinary team, offering an excellent environment for clinical leadership, education, and service development.

Essential Criteria

·      MBBS (or equivalent) with eligibility for AHPRA registration

·      Specialist registration (or eligibility) in Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM)

·      Proven experience delivering high-quality specialist ICU care

·      Demonstrated leadership in education, supervision, and multidisciplinary teams

·      Strong commitment to clinical governance, patient safety, and ongoing professional development
