The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join a regional mental health service during a major $190 million redevelopment phase. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide high‑quality psychiatric care across inpatient and community settings, including assessment, treatment planning and ECT services.

You will work as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, offering expert consultation to GPs, clinicians, and service partners. The role includes contributing to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement initiatives. Teaching and mentoring is a key component, with opportunities to supervise registrars, RMOs and medical students through established academic partnerships.

Flexible appointment types are available, with options for permanent, fixed‑term, part‑time and sessional roles. Manageable on‑call commitments support strong work–life balance.

The Hospital

The mental health service is part of a major regional health campus undergoing extensive redevelopment, including a new 15‑bed Mental Health Inpatient Unit with 4 PICU beds, co‑located with Community Mental Health services for integrated care.

The broader service includes inpatient care, community mental health, and alcohol and drug services, delivered through a strong multidisciplinary model. The medical team includes an experienced Director of Clinical Services – Mental Health, Consultant Psychiatrists, Registrars, RMOs and interns.

The service has well‑established links with the Rural Clinical School and universities, supporting a strong focus on education, research and the Rural Psychiatry Training Pathway.

The Location

Based in a vibrant coastal region of Western Australia, this location offers a relaxed lifestyle with easy access to beaches, outdoor activities and a friendly regional community. The area is known for its affordability, excellent schools, and an easy pace of life, while still being well‑connected to Perth.

It’s a popular choice for families, professionals seeking space, and specialists wanting a balance of meaningful clinical work and quality living.
