The Position

An opportunity is available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a major public mental health service in New South Wales as a Visiting Medical Officer (VMO) and Clinical Director.

This position offers a diverse and rewarding scope of practice across adult psychiatry, including assessment, diagnosis and management of a broad range of mental health presentations. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and referring clinicians to deliver integrated, patient-centred care across inpatient and hospital-based services.

The role includes exposure to:

Depending on your experience and credentialing, there may also be opportunities to contribute to:

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT)

Alongside clinical responsibilities, you will work closely with senior medical, nursing and operational leaders to support service development, workforce growth, quality initiatives and contemporary models of care. Teaching and supervision form an important component of the role, with opportunities to mentor registrars, junior doctors and medical students.

The Hospital

You will join a large health service supporting one of New South Wales' fastest-growing regions. Mental health services are delivered across multiple hospital campuses and community settings, with strong links to tertiary hospitals, academic institutions and specialist training programs.

The service is supported by a multidisciplinary workforce including psychiatrists, mental health nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, registrars and junior medical staff. A strong focus is placed on collaboration, education, evidence-based care and continuous service improvement.

With ongoing investment in mental health services and population growth across the region, the organisation offers significant opportunities for psychiatrists looking to contribute to both clinical care and future service development.

The Location

Situated between Sydney and Newcastle, the Central Coast offers the best of coastal and metropolitan living. The region is known for its beaches, waterways, national parks and outdoor lifestyle while remaining within easy reach of two major cities.

The area continues to attract families and professionals seeking a more relaxed pace of life, supported by excellent schools, expanding infrastructure, vibrant dining precincts and a strong sense of community. Whether your interests are surfing, hiking, boating or simply spending less time commuting, the Central Coast provides an enviable work-life balance.
