The Position

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Clinical Director, Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine to provide strategic and clinical leadership within a regional hospital and health service. This senior role combines leadership responsibilities with a minimum 0.5 FTE clinical workload, ensuring continued hands on anaesthetic practice. Reporting to the Director of Medical Services you will lead anaesthetic and perioperative services, oversee clinical governance and workforce performance and drive service improvement initiatives. The role involves leadership of medical staff across multiple levels, including Specialists, Visiting Medical Officers, Senior Medical Officers, Registrars, Residents, and Medical Students. You will play a key role in education, supervision, research, and the development of contemporary models of care. Participation in on-call, after-hours, weekend, and outreach services is required. The appointment is full-time and fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension. Joint or shared appointments may be considered.


The Hospital

The hospital is an 83 bed regional facility delivering a broad range of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services. Clinical services include Emergency Medicine, General Medicine and Surgery, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics and Maternity, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, High Dependency and Coronary Care, Palliative Care, Medical Imaging, Pathology, and Clinical Investigation. The service is supported by strong multidisciplinary teams and community-based outreach programs, with expanded medical and surgical capacity through an enhanced facility offering extended services, including private specialist care. Approximately 392 full-time equivalent staff deliver acute, community, and primary healthcare services with a strong focus on quality, safety, education, and service integration.

Essential Criteria

  • MBBS or equivalent, eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Specialist registration (or eligibility) in Anaesthesia
  • Fellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in clinical service delivery
