The Position
A dedicated Consultant in General Medicine is sought to provide comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, outreach and on-call services. As a senior clinician, you will manage complex general medical patients, supervise junior staff, and contribute to quality improvement, education and research initiatives. You’ll collaborate closely with the Director and multidisciplinary team to support the development of Level 4 services and advance the strategic goals of the health service, including the “Destination 2030” vision. The role also includes participation in Hospital in the Home (HITH), telehealth and outreach services to regional centres such as Biloela, Emerald, and Longreach.
The Hospital
This Level 3 facility with 70 beds provides a broad range of services including general medicine, emergency care, surgery, maternity, high-dependency care and allied health. The hospital is currently undergoing growth, with aspirations to become a Level 4 facility and serves as the healthcare hub for surrounding regional communities. A new Emergency Department, opened in 2020, supports 24/7 care, while a co-located private hospital enhances service integration. The facility plays an active role in junior doctor training and regional outreach services, fostering a collaborative and team-oriented culture.
