This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative and dynamic Cancer Service in providing haematology services to a population of approximately 250,000 in Northern Tasmania.
The Northern Cancer Service is a comprehensive, integrated cancer care service featuring medical oncology, radiation oncology, clinical and laboratory haematology and palliative care services across three sites. You will be working in a welcoming environment with an extremely supportive and collegiate regional network comprising of 3 FTE Haematologists, 5 FTE Medical Oncologists, and 4 Radiation Oncologists.
You will be responsible for providing a diagnostic and consultative service for inpatients and outpatients in adult and paediatric haematology. Active involvement in research will be supported and you will find excellent opportunities are available locally for involvement in teaching and education should you wish to pursue this.
The Hospital
The hospital is a 300-bed public hospital that provides acute care facilities for residents of the northern region of Tasmania. Every year the hospital treats over 24,000 inpatients and over 225,000 outpatients. The hospital provides inpatient and ambulatory services to surrounding areas.
As an accredited teaching facility, the hospital has a close partnership with the University of Tasmania through the local Clinical School and the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Research and innovation is encouraged and supported throughout the hospital.
The Oncology department provides outpatient Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Clinical Haematology Services of the highest quality to patients referred by their GP or specialist. The clinic also has an active support of cancer research within Tasmania. Medical oncology and clinical haematology services include diagnosis, medical treatment and follow-up to patients with cancer or a haematological diagnosis. Chemotherapy, blood product support, monoclonal antibody infusions, plasmapheresis and haematological procedures are delivered.
