The Position

We are seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Radiation Oncologist to join a dynamic cancer service operating across two regional sites in Northern Tasmania. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care, contribute to clinical trials, and support the development of advanced techniques including Stereotactic Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy.

Depending on the site, responsibilities may include:

  • Managing a diverse caseload across outpatient and inpatient settings
  • Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and clinical governance
  • Contributing to registrar training and mentoring junior staff
  • Engaging in research and quality improvement initiatives
  • On-call duties may apply depending on location

This is a full-time permanent position with generous remuneration and allowances, including relocation support and professional development funding.

The Hospital

The service operates across two modern regional cancer centres, each equipped with state-of-the-art linear accelerators, advanced planning systems, and strong support from medical physicists, radiation therapists, and nursing staff.

One site hosts the statewide Brachytherapy service and is actively involved in Phase II and III clinical trials, while the other offers a newly expanded facility with a strong focus on community engagement and integrated oncology care.

Both centres are part of a broader cancer service network, ensuring collaborative care and access to specialist support across the region.

The Location

These positions are based in two vibrant regional communities in Northern Tasmania, each offering a unique lifestyle blend of natural beauty, affordability, and work-life balance.

One location is a historic inland city known for its cultural events, gourmet food scene, and proximity to national parks and vineyards. The other is a coastal town with stunning beaches, a relaxed pace of life, and easy access to outdoor activities such as hiking, surfing, and wildlife exploration.

Both communities offer excellent schools, affordable housing, and a welcoming atmosphere for families and professionals alike. With direct flights to major cities and a strong sense of local identity, these locations provide an ideal setting for those seeking meaningful work in a supportive environment.

Essential Criteria

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), or eligibility for registration as a specialist Radiation Oncologist with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • International applicants with comparable qualifications or those who have already undergone assessment by RANZCR are strongly encouraged to apply.
