The Position

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Consultant Intensivist to join a high-performing Intensive Care Unit within a leading tertiary hospital in New Zealand’s North Island. This is a diverse and rewarding role, offering the opportunity to deliver high-level critical care, contribute to service development, and provide clinical leadership within a supportive, team-based culture.

Your responsibilities will include providing specialist care to critically ill patients, participating in multidisciplinary rounds, supervising junior doctors and registrars, and contributing to teaching, audit, and research. You’ll be a key contributor to the development of clinical pathways and service innovation, with a strong focus on patient safety, equity, and continuous improvement.

The Facility

You’ll be working within a large, tertiary-level facility serving a population of over 800,000. The ICU provides care for a broad range of critically ill patients, including medical, surgical, trauma, cardiac, and neurocritical cases. The department is accredited for Intensive Care Medicine training and has a strong focus on multidisciplinary collaboration, innovation, and clinical excellence.

Essential Criteria

• Eligibility for Vocational Registration in Intensive Care Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand
