You will be joining a friendly team of 2-3 GP's and a number of skilled nurses you will see patients throughout the day, mostly walkins. This is a well managed, modern practice complete with treatment rooms equipped to a high standard and spacious consulting rooms. Communicare software is used. On a Thursday afternoon the clinic is closed and you will share in the roster of visiting local nursing home. Patients screened at front door, don’t arrive to Drs room til well after 9am, allows drs to do paperwork in morning. Don’t have an appointment system – walk in system. Some days are really quiet. Not an onerous role. Thursday arvo – local nursing home – 5-6 clients – practice is closed for patients on Thursday arvo and one of the GPs will visit the nursing home and finishing notes. Other one is Remote outreach in the barkly region – usually serviced by nurses and AHW’s. 5-6 nurses, 3-4 of each on the floor. Helping with assessment, obs, care plans. Prepping the patient before they come Units and houses – 2 bed unit – fully furnished. Dedicated accommodation team that stock it up and manage it. Induction so you feel supported. Normally 4 GP clinic Feedback: Tennant Creek is a huge industrial scale health industry. The AMS likes to have 4 docs- there nurses for everything +++ Administrators +++++ Lots of bureaucracy. The AMS runs a huge gym next to the park, a relationships/wellness center that is another very sizeable facility. There a separate pub health unit building, a separate admin/HR building then.... there's the hospital with its own GP clinic (2docs I think)as well as ? 4-5 docs running the cas and wards. Reasonable accommodation (spent 5-6 hrs on Monday cleaning) Good shops. Their car policy does not allow travel beyond 100km - not happy with that - there is only one rental car business in town . They charge a fortune and the few cars they have are booked out most of the time. Yes, I did, but this could be improved by providing something like a starter pack for locums, including referral pathways, recall system, perhaps an MBS cheat sheet with ATSI specific details.
