This is a rare opportunity for a Specialist in Transfusion Medicine to join a world class Blood Service.
In this role you will be responsible for the ongoing clinical direction and management of the local service. You will be supported by a national collegial network and onsite transfusion nurse specialist. You will join the on-call roster which is 1 in 6. You will be involved in the management and training of registrars and have the opportunity to develop projects at a national level.
The centre where you will be based is responsible for collecting and processing approximately 40000 donations each year and houses an active donor apheresis unit and therapeutic venesection programme. A full range of immunohaematological services is provided. The centre provides a comprehensive transfusion medicine service to the local hospital and also houses the national Haemovigilance programme.
Close professional links are maintained with the haematologists at local Hospital. The possibility of a joint position, including haematology sessions, will be considered for appropriate candidates.
The Service
This Blood Service was established in 1998 to provide safe, appropriate and timely access to blood and tissue products and related services to meet the health needs of the local population. The service takes the responsibility for the development of an integrated national blood transfusion process from the collection of blood from volunteer donors to the transfusion of blood products within the hospital environment - a ?vein to vein? transfusion service.
This service has 6 laboratories across New Zealand. The Laboratory teams include Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants. The laboratories use the highest quality laboratory technology available. Closely supporting the Laboratory team are Logistics and Administration teams ensuring safe transportation of all products and the general efficiency of business processes.
