This is a new and exciting opportunity to be part of this health service's expansion of Cancer Care Services. The current Cancer Care Service is clinically supported by Visiting Specialists. The service is being expanded to provide full time specialist care and will be staffed by two full time Clinical Haematologists and two full time Medical Oncologists and supported by a Registrar and Resident Medical Officer.
As the second Haematologist you will provide high-quality clinical services to patients within the hospital and professional leadership to medical staff within the department. You will also be involoved in supervising and training registrars and junior medical staff and be an active contributor to the multidisciplinary patient care team giving you the perfect opportunity to share your skills and experience.
The Hospital
The hospital has 230 beds and services an immediate and surrounding area population of roughly 200,000 people. As the regional referral centre for emergency services, the facility sees an approximate 45,000 ED presentations per year and a total of 22,000 admissions.
2012 saw the first stages of a major redevelopment of the facility including the completion of new phlebotomy, geriatric and rehabilitation services and expansion on medical imaging, emergency department and acute assessment and paediatric units, together with the consolidation of a number of outlying services into the main hospital complex. The hospital will open a new and expanded critical care service in 2015, providing the ability to meet the critical care needs of the cancer centre.
== The Location ==
You will be situated half way between Brisbane and Townsville and only a short drive to the pristine beaches and national parklands of Queensland. The town has a relaxed and casual lifestyle and plenty of activities close by to keep you amused including a wealth of museums, botanical gardens, a crocodile farm and zoo. Head to the beach for snorkeling, scuba diving and boating or spend your day shopping at one of the four shopping centres and then unwind and enjoy a seafood dinner at one of the many restaurants in the area.
The city hosts various arts, music and dance festivals throughout the year and has a thriving nightlife with many bars, hotels and clubs to choose from. Local architecture is a mix of colonial through to modern. Homes in the suburbs south of the river are predominantly older Queensland architectural styles, the northern suburbs contain most of the modern homes. The median price of a home is about $250,000 making it a very affordable city in which to live and raise a family. The region is well served by both private and public schools, including several for boarders.
