Remote indigenous communities in Central Australia in the Northern Territory are in need of passionate and caring GPs to locum from 31 January onwards on an ongoing basis. - The communities need GPs who are available for a minimum of 2 weeks, GPs who are able to locum for 3-4 weeks will help the roster considerably. - You will earn $1200 + GST per day - You will work Monday-Friday during the day (approx 8am-5pm, though flexible) although some days may be longer than others due to travelling in between the communities and Alice Springs. - No on-call or evenings required. You must have recent experience working in remote communities and indigenous medicine. You will also need to have extensive relevant post-graduate experience which must include general practice. Qualifications in public health and rural health would be advantageous but not essential. You will be involved in the treatment of chronic illnesses, diabetes, chronic disease, asthma, poor nutrition, acute pneumonia, women?s health (you must be trained for Implanon insertion), etc.  You will be working as a member of a primary health care team and depending on the distance, travelling by car or light aircraft to remote communities. Support in the communities is provided by welcoming, friendly and committed staff. You will work in the clinics during the day and be required to stay in the communities during the week. You will be provided with orientation when you arrive in Alice Springs which includes Medicare and PCIS (Primary Care Information System) training. Accommodation and return economy flights to Alice Springs will be provided. No car is provided in Alice Springs or the communities however Alice Springs very compact town where everything is within a comfortable working distance.  Accommodation is provided in Alice Springs over the weekends in air-conditioned secured 2 storey town houses that feature 2 or 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, a washing machine and a small backyard. When you arrive in Alice Springs you will be met at the airport and driven to your accommodation and also shown where the main services and facilities are in the town.  You will be driven back to the airport at the end of your locum.  Vouchers are supplied so that you can stock up on essentials when you arrive in Alice Springs, before you fly out to the communities.  == The Location == Visit Australia?s Red Centre where you will find magnificent red desert landscapes dotted with greenery, deep gorges, and a region strong in Aboriginal culture.
