This hospital 400 bed accredited facility provides acute and elective care for a region of over 150,000. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients and will be supported by office facility and secretarial services. In addition you will share with consultant colleagues and the responsibility of providing outpatient and inpatient services for the local population. You will be one of five consultants and is support by and orthoptist and a department eye surgeon as well as ophthalmic nurses in outpatients and theatre. Your clinical workload includes 8 Clinical Sessions per week of which 2 would be theatre session and the on call rota is 1/5.  The number of sessions and ratio of clinic to theatre or treatment sessions will depend on the special interest. A wide range of general experience is a requirement, although a special interest in medical retina or paediatric ophthalmology, or other sub specialty to compliment those of existing consultants will be advantageous. == The Location == You will work and live on the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand.  The region?s population of is spread between the twin cities of Hastings and Napier, and the surrounding countryside.
