The hospital provides close supervision for trainees in acute and outpatient settings, allied with a commitment to teaching. There is an active clinical training programme with didactic sessions, interactive case-based teaching, journal club and videoconferencing of RACP lectures.   The Hospital With 225 inpatient beds the hospital is the secondary referral centre for the whole region employing 32 junior and middle grade doctors a year.   The Hospital provides a full range of secondary services, as well being the base for extensive community based services.  In recent years the hospital has undergone an almost total facelift both externally and internally.    == The Location == An easy drive or flight from Auckland, the city sits at the western end of a large, unspoilt harbour; with an award winning waterfront development designed as a gathering place for locals, visiting travellers and yachters from all over the world.
