Vacancy dates: 22 to 26 April The Hospital This is a hospital with a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialty services.  The hospital has approximately 200 beds and provides separate wards for acute medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, paediatrics, maternity, nursery, psychiatry, haemodialysis, intensive care, coronary care, emergency medicine, outpatients and operating theatres. There are 12 other hospitals within the Area Health Service (AHS), which refer patients to this hospital on a regular basis. A retrieval service is provided from the Base hospital to attend to those critically ill patients who need to be transported from the outlying hospitals to either the Base hospital or the tertiary centres to which we refer patients. The hospital is linked to a local helicopter retrieval service and is staffed by medical personnel from the Emergency Dept, anaesthetic service and ICU staff working on one of two, twin jet engine, Dauphin helicopters operated by the Surf Lifesaving Association of Australia. == The Location == This hospital is located in the North East corner of NSW. The immediate population is approximately 45,000 with an area population of 250,000. There are numerous excellent surfing beaches within 30 minutes drive from the centre of this town, Byron Bay being 40 minutes away.
