With 7.5 FTE consultants, 10 FTE registrars and 12.7 FTE of other medical staff, this accredited role will be sure to enhance and develop your skills in a friendly and supportive environment!
The Hospital
This 300-bed public hospital provides acute care facilities for residents of the town and the greater northern region. The hospital treats over 24,000 inpatients and over 225,000 outpatients annually ensuring that you will be working in a small but busy hospital which is committed to the wellbeing of its patients. This facility will give you the opportunity to experience a wide range of situations, so you are able to not only share your knowledge, but gain new skills from the rest of the team.
The 43 bed ED unit, which was opened in 2012, sees 43,000 attendances per year with 21% paediatrics and a 20% admission rate. It also receives a number of major trauma patients and experiences a very wide range of interesting pathology.
You will join a very supportive team that covers the unit for 16 hours every day, and provides an on call roster after midnight. As you will only be expected to work between 1 in 6 and 1 in 9 weekends however, the roster allows you to have plenty of evenings and weekends away from work so that you can explore and enjoy your home.

You will have plenty of attractions to go and explore with diverse and picturesque national parks, lakes and original buildings still maintained within the city and outer areas, which will bring the adventurer and historian out in you.
The community strive to maintain the rich heritage and culture of the direct area, as well as being able to keep up with the modern technologies and ideals that the region has implemented. With community events held around the city such as the local farmer markets offering a huge variety of fresh local produce, and monthly town meetings you have the opportunity to get fully involved with and become one of the locals.
Interestingly, this city is it was the first to introduce the use of anaesthetic to hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere.
