If you are a Fellow of CICM you are encouraged to apply as Intensive Care duties could be negotiated. Also if you are a Fellow of FPMANZCA, or you have significant expertise in the field of Pain Management, you are encouraged to apply for this role as clinical responsibilities in this area could be arranged. The Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care provides a wide range of anaesthetic and intensive care services. The modern theatre complex consists of seven operating theatres. The department is staffed by 20 specialist anaesthetists, eight registrars in training posts and four senior house officers. You will be working in a busy secondary hospital with modern facilities and which provides some tertiary services. The Hospital This 350 bed secondary hospital services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 168,000. In addition, it is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools. The hospital offers almost all sub-specialties (except neurosurgery and cardiac surgery); specialist medical staff with registrar and house officer support; an active Postgraduate Medical Society; well-subscribed medical library; committed multi-disciplinary teams for services, including quality nursing and paramedical staff. There is also the possibility for private practice of anaesthesia and at least a half day off per week would be available to pursue opportunities in this area. == The Location == You would live in the lower part of the North Island of New Zealand, 140 kilometres north of the capital city of Wellington. Located in the eastern part of the Manawatu Plains, this area is the major commercial centre for the region and is situated at the geographical centre of New Zealand. The city centre has everything you want ? beautiful inner city parks, historic buildings, a great range of bars, cafes, restaurants, boutique shops, museums and art galleries. This location is a major university city and is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields and river adventures. Wellington, the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke's Bay and Wairarapa. Why Wavelength?
