This is a modern, spacious and attractive hospital that was commissioned in 1986. It provides acute and elective medical and surgical services with a medical staff comprising 30 specialists and 10 house officers. The surgical floor is comprised of all surgical services and the Day Ward provides surgical and oncology services. The Operating Theatre Suite is modern and well equipped with three operating rooms, an endoscopy room and six bed post-anaesthetic care unit. == The Position ==: You will be commencing work in December 2011 and required to work an average of 80 hours per fortnight on routine duties as well as take part in a 1:4 on call roster. There will be daily ward rounds, pre-operative patient assessments, two operating theatre lists per week, two outpatient clinics per week and one further half-day output per week to be agreed (e.g. extra outpatient, endoscopy list etc). The department will require you to practice a broad scope of surgery including endoscopy, and basic vascular, urological, breast and paediatric surgery. You will have the opportunity to encounter a diverse range of conditions, treatment procedures and cultural practices. The surgery department consists of junior doctors who are first and second year house surgeons, and general practice trainees. There are no surgical registrars. Therefore your position will also require you to instruct, guide and supervise work of house officers working in the General Surgery service, give advice as required, participate in tutorial sessions for all junior medical staff and review the performance of house officers if and when required. The hospital wants all of their employees to expand your knowledge and therefore you will be encouraged to undertake research during regular hours as time permits. == The Location ==: You will be living in a town that is the first in the world to see the sun each day!
