You will earn $125 per hour and accommodation, car and travel will be provided so you can go exploring on your days off - The work is broad and challenging, delivering acute clinical care, chronic disease management and public health programs in a cross-cultural setting.  - Preference for doctors who are available to locum for 2 weeks at a time. - You will be provided with a full day of orientation in Darwin which includes Medicare training, PCIS training and CARPA training before you fly out to the community. - A full range of support is available for you from other local GPs, hospitals, Aerial Medical Services telephone consultation and medical retrievals. - There are two main seasons in the Top End ? the wet season extends from November ? April and the dry season from May ? October. 10 March - 12 April Groote Eylandt ? a fantastic spot for fishing and exploring indigenous culture, away from tourists. A locum required covering leave gaps for GP based in the manganese mining community of Alyangula on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria ? 630 km by air south east of Darwin.  Services are also provided to the two main aboriginal communities of Angurugu and Umbakumba on Groote Eylandt, Bickerton Island and Numbulwar on the adjacent mainland.  - Clinical work is undertaken on rotation in one of the five nurse-managed health centres which have resident staff including nursing and Aboriginal health workers, and receive a range of visiting medical and allied health staff. - Gove Hospital in Nhulunbuy, 190 km to the north, provides clinical support with both Aerial Medical Service telephone consultations and medical retrievals.  Royal Darwin Hospital is the back up for tertiary care.  - The clinic hours are from 8.00am to 4.30pm Mon to Fri.  - This position shares After Hours call with a second GP.  The system followed is the Nurse on call responds to any call outs and contacts the doctor if required or as advised by the DMO on-call from Gove. - Travel to island and mainland community is via light aircraft.  == The Location == Groote Eylandt means ?big island? in Dutch, it is the largest island in the Gulf of Carpentaria. The population is approximately 2400, including outstations. Within Alyangula there is a supermarket (closed on Sundays), a news agency, a bank, restaurants, takeaway outlets, a milk bar, police station, a school, a church, a small arcade and services such as a hairdresser, video hire and veterinarian. There is a recreation club and a licensed Golf Club.  The communities outside of Alyangula are dry communities. Fishing, AFL, basket ball, swimming, golf, tennis and touch rugby are popular past-times. There are daily flights to Darwin and Nhulunbuy.  Summer temperatures range from 24-31 degrees. February Borroloola - a historic and remote fishing community on the McArthur River with a wild frontier past. - The clinic hours at Borroloola are from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday.  You will be supported by Aboriginal Health Workers, Remote Area Nurses and a second GP (2 weeks on / 2 weeks off). - The RANs provide 1st & 2nd on call for the community.
