The hospital is accredited for psychiatry training which allows you to work later on in the training programme at some of the larger metro centers. This provides you with excellent experience during your time here, where you get fantastic hands on approach supported by excellent senior members of staff, as well as the opportunity to go to a larger city hospital such as Wellington or Auckland. The Hospital You will be working as a psychiatry registrar in a 217 bed hospital that provides services across four locations in the region. The hospital serves a population of 63,000 with the Emergency Department caring for about 18,000 patients annually. In 2008 the hospital opened a brand new theatre complex and maternity department, giving staff and patients access to modern, state-of-the-art facilities including spiral CT, 1.5T MRI, new theatres, ICU and resuscitation bay. Services provided include medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, urology medicine, vascular surgery, endoscopy, psychiatry and rheumatology. == The Location == Situated on the west coast of New Zealand?s North Island, the city enjoys the fourth most temperate climate in the world, making it ideal for you to enjoy the wide array of outdoor pursuits on offer.
