An interest in sleep studies would be an advantageous.   There are five respiratory consultants and the appointee will be involved in teaching, continuing medical education and quality improvement.   There is emphasis on ongoing development of services to meet the needs of the patients and a commitment to customer focus; service development and teamwork are essential characteristics we will be looking for.   The Hospital As a tertiary centre accredited by RACP as a level 3 hospital, the facility offers a friendly, collegial and supportive environment in a service committed to patient care, training and teamwork.  There is an active post-graduate training programme and they have opportunities for both basic and advanced trainees.    You will work in a 600 bed regional base hospital that provides secondary services for approx. 360,000 residents and tertiary services for the Midland Region of 860,000. The hospital has very recently currently undergoing an extensive building programme which will include a new 100 bedded acute medical hub with an acute assessment unit and medical wards, which opened in June, 2011.    The hospital is the main trauma facility for the area, and close connection to road and air transport (air ambulances, helicopter or fixed wing plane) allow patient-hospital transport in less than an hour from any place in the region.   == The Location == The hospital lies on the North Island of New Zealand and is the major centre of one of the richest agricultural and pastoral areas in the world.   The region is full of lush, green hills, bush and farmland, with exceptional surf on the west coast.  The beautiful River carves its journey through the landscapes, and intersects the region's hub. A city of education and scientific research, parks and gardens, fine cuisine and cafés, culture and attractions.   Perfectly situated between beaches on both coasts of New Zealand, and being only a 2-3 hour drive away from the snow fields, you really do have everything right on your doorstep with plenty to enjoy in your well-earned time off!   == Essential Criteria == You should have a broad range of respiratory experience and training and be able to participate in the acute roster.  An interest in sleep studies would be an advantage.
