There are approximately 600 births per year. An inpatient ward of 85-beds consists of medical, surgical, day stay, paediatric, obstetric, and elderly assessment and rehabilitation units. Outpatient services are available for all of the specialities listed above together with oncology, dermatology, and cardiology services provided locally by specialists from nearby hospitals. The hospital is nearing completion of a significant rebuild and as such it is well equipped with purpose built modern facilities. This includes new operating theatres and a day surgery unit. It has a well-established coronary and intensive care unit, a neonatal unit, a radiology service (which includes nuclear medicine, ultrasound and CT scanning capabilities), laboratory services, as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy departments. You will join a team of four specialist anaesthetists in mid 2011. The hospital?s services are consultant led and therefore there are no registrar training positions. However there are SHO?s rotating through the unit. Your job would require you to be on call 1:5 but the hospital realises the importance of lifestyle they aim to minimise out-of-hours surgery to the absolute essential cases only. == The Location ==: You will be living 300 kilometres from Christchurch in a town that has a population of just over 25,000.  It is known as the ?Sunshine Capital? of New Zealand which means plenty of time for outdoor activities.
