Significant changes to the Subclass 407 Training Visa are coming into effect on 11 March 2026, introducing stricter sponsorship and nomination requirements for both applicants and sponsoring organisations.
Key Changes Effective 11 March 2026
From 11 March 2026, sponsors must obtain an approved training nomination before a 407 visa application can be submitted. In practice, this means applicants cannot lodge their visa application until the sponsoring organisation’s training program has received formal approval.
This change aligns with new legislative requirements, which prevent Subclass 407 Trainees from applying until both Sponsorship and Nomination are approved.
Previously, it was possible to lodge a Temporary Activities Sponsorship, Training Nomination, and Training Visa simultaneously. After 11 March 2026, these applications can no longer be processed concurrently.
Who is Affected
These changes apply to all Training Visa applications lodged from 11 March 2026 onwards. Applications submitted prior to this date will not be affected.
What Does This Mean?
Although Temporary Activities Sponsorship and Training Nominations may still be processed together, Trainees could face significant delays before they are eligible to lodge their visa application.
With Subclass 407 visa processing times having tripled, applications can now take anywhere from 3 to 11 months to be finalised.
