Director Clinical Services – Mental Health
Location available upon request , WA, }
Job ID.
The Position
This senior leadership opportunity combines clinical influence, strategic oversight and service development within a growing regional health service.
As Director Clinical Services – Mental Health, you will provide leadership across mental health and alcohol and other drug services, ensuring care is safe, contemporary and evidence based. Working alongside executive and operational leaders, you will help shape future service models, strengthen workforce capability and support the delivery of equitable care across a large and geographically diverse region.
The role offers a balance of clinical governance, workforce leadership, service planning and quality improvement, together with the opportunity to influence how mental health services are delivered across rural and remote communities. It is ideally suited to a psychiatrist who enjoys leading multidisciplinary teams, developing innovative models of care and driving meaningful change at both a strategic and operational level.
The package ranges from approximately $425,000 to $539,000+, depending on experience and qualifications, and includes relocation assistance, regional incentives, accommodation and travel support, professional development leave, and a range of additional employment benefits.
The Hospital
You will join a health service undergoing significant investment and transformation, including the development of a new Acute Psychiatric Unit and major upgrades to clinical infrastructure.
Mental health and alcohol and other drug services operate across inpatient and community settings, supported by multidisciplinary teams delivering comprehensive, patient-centred care. The organisation is committed to service innovation, workforce sustainability and improving access to specialist mental health services throughout the region.
This is an environment where senior clinicians can play a genuine role in shaping future service delivery while remaining connected to clinical practice and patient outcomes.
The Location
Located on the stunning Western Australian coastline, this thriving regional centre offers an appealing combination of professional opportunity and lifestyle. The region is known for its beaches, outdoor recreation, strong sense of community and relaxed pace of life.
With excellent schools, growing infrastructure and easy access to Perth, it continues to attract healthcare professionals seeking a rewarding career without the pressures often associated with major metropolitan centres. Whether your interests lie in fishing, hiking, surfing or simply enjoying more time outside work, the Midwest offers an enviable lifestyle alongside a meaningful leadership role.
Essential Criteria
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) or equivalent specialist qualification
Specialist Registration with AHPRA, or eligibility for specialist registration in Australia
Experience in general adult psychiatry and alcohol and other drug services
Demonstrated leadership experience within multidisciplinary mental health settings
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and workforce development capabilities
Understanding of the delivery of services to rural, remote, Indigenous and multicultural communities

The Practice
Due to a long-term doctor retiring, this private billing clinic is looking for a GP to take over the established patient list and be part of a team that provides high quality healthcare. The practice is well set up featuring 18 consulting rooms and two procedure rooms. The existing team of 15 other doctors, 14 GPs and an O&G specialist, are fully booked, with the majority having their books closed.
The practice provides their GPs with personal assistants, full-time nurse support, a practice manager and reception and admin staff and is very supportive of special interests.
The practice is happy to provide Permanent Residency visa sponsorship and relocation assistance and in addition to the usual billings also offers a rewards programme for their doctors.
Practice opening hours are 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 12:30pm Saturday mornings which are shared on a non-onerous roster of one in eight, so each doctor covers one Saturday morning every two months or so. For GPs who would like to boost their billings with a little after-hours work, the practice can offer the option to work on Wednesday evening 6pm to 8:30pm.
This clinic prides itself in their happy team atmosphere, which is proven by their incredibly low staff turnover. Wavelength has had the pleasure of helping two GP from the UK join this clinic more than 10 years ago, who are both still there and providing lovely feedback.
Situated in a friendly village shopping strip in a higher socio-economic area, this purpose-built practice has all the facilities you’ll need including a staff kitchen and bathroom, pharmacy and pathology on site, as well as a lovely café downstairs so you can enjoy your cappuccino or latte during your breaks.
The Location
Located two hours’ drive from Sydney, this Newcastle suburb to the west of the city centre has easy access to shops, schools and public transport. The region is known for idyllic weather and you can drive to nearby beaches before or after work. There is a pharmacy and pathology located next to the clinic for your and your patients’ convenience, as well as surgery and tertiary hospital support only 10 minutes away.
Essential Criteria
DPA position and visa sponsorship available.
AHPRA ESP and RACGP PEP-Specialist Pathway eligible international candidates (substantially comparable) as well as GPs holding Specialist Registration with AHPRA are eligible for this role.
