BREAKING NEWS: Healthcare 482 Visas to Receive Highest Processing Priority Regardless of Location

We have received breaking news directly from the Department of Home Affairs regarding the processing of subclass 482 visa applications for healthcare workers.

The Department has advised us that Minister Burke has signed a new Ministerial Direction which will give healthcare 482 applications the highest processing priority, regardless of whether the applicant is in Australia or overseas at the time of lodgement.

This is an important development for Australian hospitals and overseas doctors, particularly those currently waiting offshore for their 482 visa applications to be processed.

What the Department has told us

Director of Temporary Skilled Program Delivery at the Department of Home Affairs, advised:

“Under the new Direction which applies to the subclass 482 program, applications in the healthcare sector will have the highest processing priority, regardless of the applicant’s location at time of lodgement.”

The new Direction is expected to be published on the Department's website shortly.

The Department has cautioned, however, that it will be managing a high volume of high-priority applications and that immediate attention will generally only be available in exceptional circumstances.

Accordingly, the new priority does not mean that every healthcare 482 application will be processed immediately or within a guaranteed timeframe.
