The Position

Deliver expert clinical assessment and treatment to individuals experiencing psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral challenges within our hospital and health service, including those under the Mental Health Act (2016). Contribute to high-quality patient care through clinical and non-clinical activities, including potential research and teaching opportunities. Collaborate within a supportive, multidisciplinary team environment. Provide leadership and management in the delivery of specialist medical services across hospital, community, and outreach settings. This position focuses on Adult Mental Health Services for rural consumers.

The Hospital

This major healthcare provider in North Queensland offers a comprehensive range of mental health services for individuals across the region, spanning acute inpatient care, community-based support, and outreach programs. These services include crisis intervention, assessment, treatment for severe and complex mental health conditions, rehabilitation programs, and specialised services for children, adolescents, older persons, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The mental health teams are multidisciplinary, comprising psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, psychologists, and Indigenous mental health workers, who work collaboratively to provide person-cantered care in hospital, community, and rural settings.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications in Psychiatry, recognised by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and current registration with/or eligibility for registration as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia.

The Practice

This practice is aligned with the vision of delivering integrated, coordinated care for better patient outcomes, housing a variety of medical services under one roof, such as pathology, imaging including ultrasounds, X-ray and even a CT scanner as well as physiotherapy. The role is best suited to a GP passionate about quality patient care & continuity of care across multiple services. There are 22 GP consult rooms with experienced occupational health and treatment room nurses rostered 7 days a week for support.

All the doctors, allied health and staff have a strong work ethic and have built a supportive family culture. The collegiate atmosphere, the skill sets of the doctors and the excellent facilities have made this centre an integral part of the health care provision for the area.

AHPRA ESP and RACGP PEP-Specialist Pathway eligible international candidates (substantially comparable) as well as GPs holding Specialist Registration with AHPRA are eligible for this role.
