The Position
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Respiratory & Sleep Medicine Specialist to join the Department of Medicine across two major hospitals. In this senior role, you will provide high-quality specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory and sleep-related conditions across inpatient, outpatient and procedural settings. You will contribute to service development and clinical governance, lead multidisciplinary case discussions and drive evidence-based, patient-centred care. Key responsibilities include establishing a standard bronchoscopy service, progressing toward advanced bronchology accreditation and leading a regular clinico-radiologic-pathology MDT for lung cancer on the Fraser Coast. This position requires strong clinical leadership, a commitment to human rights principles, and dedication to improving health outcomes for the Fraser Coast community.
The Hospital
These modern regional hospitals deliver comprehensive public health services including emergency, medical, surgical, obstetrics, paediatrics, mental health, critical care and specialist outpatient care to communities across the Fraser Coast, Bundaberg, North Burnett and surrounding regions. You will join a progressive and expanding service committed to strengthening its respiratory and sleep medicine capability, improving service sustainability and supporting contemporary clinical practice. Highly regarded for its collaborative culture, strong clinical standards and commitment to education, training and research, the service employs more than 6,600 staff across 21 facilities, providing a collegial, multidisciplinary environment focused on continuous quality improvement and safe, patient-centred care.
The Location
The Fraser Coast offers an enviable coastal lifestyle with a relaxed pace of living. Essential criteria
- Medical qualification from a recognised tertiary institution and current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine or eligibility for Fellowship, including maintenance of CPD.
- Specialist registrants are preferred; however, non-specialists or overseas-trained specialists may be considered where significant progress toward fellowship is demonstrated.
