As Senior Staff Specialist/Staff Specialist you will assist the Director O&G to lead and manage services at Rockhampton Hospital, gain exposure to a broad range of conditions and contribute to the development, growth and success of the department. You will also assist with the education and supervision of surgical trainees and other medical staff, medical students, allied health, interested community groups and nursing staff. Your role will also include assisting in the day to day management of O&G services including active participation in patient safety, clinical audit, research and service planning activities. The Hospital The hospital has 230 beds and services an immediate and surrounding area population of roughly 250,000 people. As the regional referral centre for emergency services, the facility sees an approximate 45,000 ED presentations per year and a total of 22,000 admissions. There is a great variety of clinical presentations. 2012 saw the first stages of a major redevelopment of the facility including the completion of new phlebotomy, geriatric and rehabilitation services and expansion on medical imaging, emergency department and acute assessment and paediatric units, together with the consolidation of a number of outlying services into the main hospital complex. Construction of a $155 million seven storey ward block was completed in May 2015; three of the stories house cancer care services. A new helipad built on top of the seven storey ward block will enable better transport of trauma patients. Works are also underway on the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit that will be housed within the new seven storey ward block == The Location == Halfway between Brisbane and Townsville this town is only a short drive to the pristine beaches and national parklands of Queensland. The town has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and offers plenty of activities close by to keep you and your family entertained; including museums, botanical gardens, a crocodile farm and a local zoo. The beach is perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving and boating.  The city hosts various arts, music and dance festivals throughout the year and has a thriving nightlife with many restaurants, bars, hotels and clubs to choose from. Locally there are four shopping centres. The region is well served by both private and public schools, including several for boarders. The architecture is a mix of colonial through to modern. Homes in the suburbs south of the river are predominantly older Queensland architectural styles; the northern suburbs contain most of the modern homes.
