We’ve been recognised as an Employer of Choice at the Australian Business Awards 2018. Read on about the four company values we follow to create our exceptional workplace culture.
At the recent prestigious Australian Business Awards 2018, we were honoured to be recognised as an Australian Employer of Choice. This follows our seven-time listing in the annual BRW Best Places to Work Study and a number of other recruitment industry awards for our services and workplace culture.
For our loyal Doctors and healthcare employers, it won’t come as any surprise that we’re extremely proud of the culture we’ve created. Back in 1999 when our founders Dr John Bethell and Claire Ponsford established Wavelength, their vision was to lead a high-performing medical recruitment company founded on integrity, care and respect – a distinct departure from the long hours, high-stress, high-stakes culture common in many other recruitment companies at that time.
Almost 20 years later, our founders have realised this vision, and so much more. “Since Wavelength’s inception, we’ve been committed to creating a workplace culture that provides a real work-life balance, focuses on the health and wellbeing of employees and recognises their contribution to the success of the company,” says Claire.
So, what’s the secret to our workplace success?
In short, it’s all about the values that underpin everything we do: excellence, integrity, ingenuity and heart.
Unlike many organisations, our values are determined by our employees, rather than our management team, and are ingrained into our business processes. We also understand the importance of taking the time to embed these values culturally and bring them to life both internally and externally, each and every day.
“We live and breathe our values and are very proud of our culture. We ensure our approach is meaningful, genuinely care about the task at hand and strive for continuous improvement. It’s a privilege to be surrounded by people who inspire each other to be the best we can be,” says Deanna Daly, Digital Marketing Specialist, Wavelength.
Going above and beyond
We are passionate about service. We always go the extra mile.
Our success is driven by ensuring excellent quality of service. Our doctors and healthcare employers need to be confident they have the best job or the best Doctor for the job, without doing the legwork. We make this process as seamless as possible. Central to maintaining our service excellence is having recruiters who are experienced, and experts in their field.
“Wavelength is the best place I have ever worked by far. There’s a care factor that not only extends to clients and candidates but also to employees who feel valued, and as a result want to give back by working hard to be some of the industry’s highest performers.
“The employees at Wavelength are here because they want to make a difference to a community in need, and collectively as a group we strive to better resource the community,” says Samantha Darbison, Migration Agent, Wavelength.
Doing the right thing
We’ll do what we say we will do. We never compromise our ethical or moral standards.
The success of our working environment is also based on trust, autonomy and accountability. In short, doing the right thing. Work-life balance is integral to the Wavelength culture and all employees are encouraged to take a balanced approach to their professional and personal lives.
Everyone works flexible hours including two work from home days per week, regardless of their position or seniority within the business. Casual dress, free breakfast, exercise sessions and a masseuse on site once a week further demonstrates how Wavelength is invested in the wellbeing of its employees.
The physical work environment is also one of openness and collaboration with all employees seated within a contemporary loft-style open plan office.
“The culture at Wavelength is second to none. There’s a general feeling of warmth and caring for one another, great staff benefits such as flexible working hours, work from home days, volunteer days within the community, fantastic staff recognition, inspirational speakers, and the list goes on,” Samantha says.
Making it happen
We find solutions. We constantly seek to improve and evolve.
We constantly evolve and adapt to meet changing market conditions, as well as our candidate and healthcare employer requirements. We’re proud of making things happen and offer a range of recruitment solutions to assist healthcare providers across the region meet their strategic priorities.
In addition to filling locum and permanent medical roles, we also offer a suite of strategic partnership services, from managing an entire locum roster in a hospital department to offering a full recruitment management system, including delivery and reporting of all recruitment needs.
Our added value services for employers include advice on employment contracts and Workplace Health and Safety, salary packaging and retention strategies. Wavelength is also one of the only medical recruitment agencies in Australia to have an expert in-house regulatory and migration team, including registered migration agents.
“Today’s marketplace is changing at such a rapid rate and I strongly believe one of the things we do best at Wavelength is listen to our clients and make things happen. We’re genuinely inquisitive because it’s the only way we can truly understand what’s actually possible and how we can definitely add value,” says Chris Riley, Wavelength’s CEO.
“We also care passionately about Wavelength and our clients and we’re extremely proud of the work we do. Our unique and engaging culture ultimately drives us to deliver exceptionally high standards of service,” he says.
Making a positive impact
We take pride in making a wider difference. We love what we do.
We also believe passionately in extending our value of heart, fostering a sense of meaning and purpose in our work by actively supporting a number of charities. In addition to our workplace giving program Good2Give, in 2017 Wavelength donated over $30,000 to its charity partners Fred Hollows Foundation, Love Mercy Foundation, Médecins Sans Frontières and R U OK? Foundation.
Employees also regularly donate blood to the Red Cross Blood Bank. We also sponsor Indigenous scholarships at UNSW to support students to continue studying medical degrees at university, amongst many other fundraising and volunteer initiatives.
“Making a positive impact on the wider community has always been a cornerstone of Wavelength’s value system, and something I personally feel very connected to. Allowing me the trust and flexibility to have volunteer days is evidence that it is a value the business truly stands behind,” says Camilla Mutton, Wavelength’s Business Improvement Consultant.
And Carole Paterson, Executive Projects Officer agrees. “I work with a great group of people, who genuinely care about the work they do to make a difference on a daily basis. Wavelength supports people as individuals whilst encouraging them to pull together as teams as well, I feel lucky to work in such a great place!” she says.
We’re proud to have created a workplace with a modern outlook on how employees should be treated and managed, and continue to follow our four core values – Excellence, Integrity, Ingenuity & Heart – to keep the business moving in the right direction.
