In this role, you will provide clinical expertise within the Department of Medicine (adult) to both inpatients and outpatients. You are expected to provide clinical leadership and supervision to junior medical staff, as well as actively contribute to the education of all health staff affiliated with the health service. To be successful in this role, you will have comprehensive knowledge of and the ability to handle a full spectrum of general medicine patients. Clinical expertise and leadership in a subspecialty area of interest is also encouraged and supported.
This hospital serves as the major regional provider of health services to the community which extends across South Australia. With 78 beds the hospital annually provides 6,500 outpatient services and 5,500 surgical procedures as well as admitting 3,500 general and 3,000 emergency patients.
The Hospital is a site of a rural clinical school which provides support and education for accredited intern positions. Mount Gambier Hospital is the only rural hospital in South Australia to offer a full year of internship in a rural environment with full support from the Medical Board of South Australia and the SA IMET.
Located in South Australia roughly 30 km from the sea is a thriving city amongst a beautiful landscape of volcanic craters, lakes and underground waterways. With a population of roughly 25,000 people, this city is the largest urban area outside of Adelaide in South Australia. The area experiences warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
For the size of the city, it has a good range of educational facilities for all ages. There are 5 public primary schools, 2 public high schools and 2 K – 12 private colleges. There are also options for tertiary education with a TAFE campus and a University of South Australia campus. To be successful in applying for this position you must hold or be eligible for FRACP and be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. Additionally, our client is seeking someone with a commitment to maintaining a collaborative work environment, strong time management skills and the ability to delegate and manage staff appropriately. The suitable candidate must also have a desire to work in rural or remote areas.
