An opportunity exists for a highly-motivated Addiction Medicine Specialist or Medicine Specialist with an interest for Addiction Medicine, to join a growing department within a public hospital in NSW. Working in a hospital renowned for its exceptional dedication to Drug and Alcohol services, you will be supported by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals to provide high-quality clinical services. The role takes on a ‘lead a team approach’, involving core disciplines integral to the provision of good addiction medicine care, including general practice, with input for all relevant specialities. This position involves participation in on-call rosters.
You will be encouraged and supported to actively lead and promote clinical practice improvement through the application of evidence-based best practice to improve the quality of both service delivery and patient care within the department and the facility. Additionally, there is an opportunity to maintain an intellectual environment within the Department conducive to high-quality medical research, with the support of a research assistant. To this end, a conjoint university appointment within the faculty of Medicine would be available to those interested.
The hospital is a 650-bed public teaching hospital, with the Emergency Department treating over 54,000 patients annually. It covers a population of approximately 350,000 people. The 15-bed Drug and Alcohol service ward provides access to all levels of service across the continuum of care, from population-based strategies designed to prevent the establishment of substance abuse in individuals and groups to inpatient and outpatient medical care for people with severe dependence.

To be successful in applying for this position you must hold FRACP and be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency or be close to obtaining fellowship and be eligible for General Specialist registration with AHPRA. Specialists with the equivalent overseas qualification, who are eligible for registration for AHPRA, are also encouraged to apply.
