The hospital provides services to some of the nation’s most socially disadvantaged people, with high levels of morbidity and mortality, many with diseases not seen elsewhere in the country.
You will join a supportive team, working in consultation with allied health and nursing rehabilitation staff. You will have the opportunity to share your knowledge and skills undertaking supervision and training of advanced trainees in rehabilitation medicine.
This 189-bed hospital is the specialist referral centre for Central Australia providing services across an area of 1 million square kilometres, equivalent to the size of NSW. The hospital provides general speciality services in most areas including day procedure, emergency, intensive care and high dependency, maternity, medical, outpatients, paediatric, surgical and mental health services. The nearest referral hospitals are some 1,500 kilometres distant. Because of the relative isolation the hospital services must be able to handle most medical situations.
The hospital has strong links to Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre as tertiary referral centres and through visiting specialists from these hospitals. It is affiliated with Flinders University with an on-site medical school and linked closely with Baker Institute of Diabetes and Menzies School of Health Research.
