== The Position == This new position offers the opportunity for a Specialist in Transfusion Medicine to join a growing world class Blood Service.  In this role you will be responsible for the clinical transfusion medicine services provided by the centre, including peripheral hospitals served from the centre. This will involve development and maintenance of close working relationships with medical specialists working within local hospitals.  You will join a team of three transfusion specialists and will have the opportunity to develop your own special interest. You will join the national on-call roster which is 1 in 6 and have the opportunity to develop projects at a national level.  The centre where you will be based is provides a comprehensive transfusion medicine service to the local hospital and also houses the National Component Development Laboratory responsible for delivery of services applicable to cellular and tissue processing and tissue banking as well as specialised blood component processing.  The Service This Blood Service was established in 1998 to provide safe, appropriate and timely access to blood and tissue products and related services to meet the health needs of the local population. The service takes the responsibility for the development of an integrated national blood transfusion process from the collection of blood from volunteer donors to the transfusion of blood products within the hospital environment - a ?vein to vein? transfusion service.  This service has 6 laboratories across New Zealand. The Laboratory teams include Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Laboratory Assistants. The laboratories use the highest quality laboratory technology available.
