As the Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine, you will provide consultative care to inpatients and outpatients across two hospitals. The inpatient role will include duties in the acute older persons’ unit, geriatric assessment and rehabilitation, orthogeriatric care, and consultative work at the main hospital. Additionally, involvement in the teaching and research of undergraduate and post-graduate medical students is encouraged.
You will join a team of 5 Staff Specialists who have varied clinical, teaching and research interests and experience. The Department actively engages in the clinical redesign to improve the older person's journey within the organisation, as well as interstate research collaborations in Dementia and Parkinson's Disease. The Team also participates in monthly, regional clinical outreach.
This public, 400-bed teaching hospital services a major regional area of Tasmania. It provides state-wide services in the areas of cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, major trauma, high-risk obstetrics, hyperbaric medicine and neonatal intensive care, accommodating referrals from other regional areas. The hospital functions in co-operation with the University of Tasmania, which offers a research foundation and on-site research Institute. The Geriatric sub-acute inpatient care and outpatient service are located at the adjacent hospital – a short walk through the CBD.
