== The Position == Wavelength has a unique opportunity for a General Surgeon in a regional hospital in Northern QLD. The department is looking for a full time specialist to complete general elective surgeries alongside scopes and smaller emergency surgeries such as appendectomies, abscess and hernia removals. As most trauma cases are referred to a nearby large hospital you will be working a standard generalist role with no large operations and little post operative follow up.  You will be supported by 1 PHO, an in house JMO and a rostered registrar. You will complete two scope lists per day with approximately 6 ? 8 patients per list. You will have a keen interest in service development and teaching as the director is seeking to develop the service into an accredited training site. == The Location == holds DWS status and as such, international medical graduates are encouraged to apply.  The Hospital Covering over 300,000 square kilometres this hospital operates as a level four base hospital servicing remote rural communities. The facility has 80 beds and offers services such as Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Emergency and Palliative Care. The Hospital also offers a number of outreach services to facilities and hospitals inclusive of mental and allied health, nutrition and aged care. The 24 hour Emergency Department has recently been relocated into a purpose built facility allowing the most up to date care to be provided in state of the art facilities. The department currently has over 29,000 presentations annually with 6,933 admissions to the Hospital. The Hospital has been granted $65.19 million redevelopment to improve access to services alongside improving patient facilities and amenities.  == The Location == Surrounded by picturesque rugged terrain, this oasis of the outback has a rich mining history with many natural attractions. The local airport has daily flights to Queensland?s capital cities allowing easy onward access to all other states within Australia. == Essential Criteria == The successful candidate will be a Fellow with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and hold specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
