As the Staff Specialist or VMO in Anaesthetics you will be responsible for the provision of clinical anaesthetic services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients. You will be involved in ensuring safe clinical practice is being upheld by junior staff and other relevant staff through supervision and education.
Currently the department is staffed with 3 FTE Anaesthetists and 2 FTE locum Anaesthetists. You will be required to participate in the 1:5 on call.
This 100 bed facility is a level 3/4 base hospital that provides care to over 12,500 patients every year. The hospital provides acute medical, surgical, orthopaedics, paediatric, geriatric, maternity, high dependency, renal, oncology, palliative care, emergency, some specialist outpatient services and day surgery facilities. 500 births take place annually in the hospital's three delivery suites. A Level 4 service is offered with babies delivered up to 34 weeks.
The city is located 40km from the coast and has an extremely beautiful centre characterised by wide streets and elegant Victorian buildings. It is a two and a half hour drive from Brisbane and it is one of Australia's most stately country cities. This city has all the facilities you can expect from a contemporary metropolis and can be reached by road, rail and air.
There are public and private schooling options and the local TAFE provides certificate and diploma level courses. With a good range of affordable housing to purchase and rent, this country side location has become home to a population of approximately 20,000 people.
With more than 60 Kilometres of coastline, affordable housing options, heritage villages and loads of country drives there really is something for the whole family in this region.
To be successful in applying for this position you must hold FANZCA or be close to obtaining your fellowship and have AHPRA registration. Ideally you will have a strong ability to work autonomously and within a team as there is no junior support available within the department.
